Red & Green Star Testing

Red & Green Star Test Info & Qualifications: We want all our young swimmers to have a blast while staying safe! To earn extra freedom at the pool, kids can take our Red Star or Green Star swim tests. Parents need to be present while the child is taking test. Tests can be scheduled with a lifeguard during the following times:

  • Weekdays: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Weekends: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • (Excludes Holidays)

Red Star Test (ages 5-9): Kids who pass this test can jump off the diving board and swim in the deep end (diving well and lap lane side) without a parent in the pool during general swim! All children in the pool and on deck aged 9 & under are still required to have a parent on deck.

Note: If a child does not pass the test, they must stay in the shallow end. To enter the deep end or use the diving board, they must be closely accompanied and/or assisted by a parent in the water.

TEST REQUIREMENTS:

  • Swim 50 yards (2 x full lengths) freestyle with side-breathing without stopping more than 3 seconds at each end
  • Jump off diving board into the pool and tread water for 2 minutes
  • Float on back for 2 minutes

Green Star Test (ages 10-14): Kids who pass this test can be dropped off and left at the pool without a parent or guardian present during general swim!

TEST REQUIREMENTS:

  • Swim 100 yards (4 x full lengths) freestyle with side-breathing without stopping more than 3 seconds at each end
  • Jump off diving board into the pool and tread water for 5 minutes
  • Float on back for 2 minutes
  • List 5 pool rules

BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS FOR GREEN STAR SWIMMERS: To keep the pool safe and enjoyable for everyone, we expect Green Star swimmers to follow the facility and pool rules, as well as respect LRD facilities, other patrons and staff. LRD will enforce a strict three-strike rule for behavior violations. If a Green Star swimmer receives 3 strikes they will lose their Green Star status.

  • Strike 1: A verbal warning from management or the lifeguard
  • Strike 2: A written warning
  • Strike 3: A third violation will result in the immediate removal of green star status
